Chiprun
Free for gardens, allotments and farms

Free woodchip, delivered.

Free wood chippings near you, from local tree surgeons

Local arborists need somewhere to tip the chip from every job. List your garden, allotment, school or farm, say what you'll take and how much, and they'll drop it when they're working nearby.

How it works

Three steps to a free pile of mulch.

  1. 1

    Drop a pin

Mark the spot the chip should go, and the largest vehicle that can reach it.

  2. 2

    Say what you want

Mulch / woodchip, logs or both, and how long the listing stays up, from a week to three months.

  3. 3

    Get it delivered

Tree surgeons find you when they search nearby. When you don't want any more, remove the listing in one tap.

What you'll get

Fresh chip, ready to spread.

  • Paths

Between beds and across wet ground, soft underfoot and weed-free.

  • Mulch

Spread on top of borders to keep weeds down and water in.

  • Runs and pens

A dry, soft floor for chicken runs, and mud-free gateways.

Keep it on top. Dug into beds while it's fresh, chip borrows nitrogen from the soil as it breaks down.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Yes. Tree surgeons pay to tip chip at green waste sites, so a nearby garden, allotment or farm that will take it saves them money and miles. You pay nothing, and neither do they.

A typical 3.5t tipper load is about a tonne, which is a big pile. When you don't want any more, tap “Remove listing” on your listing or in the reminder email, and you come off the map straight away.

Tap “Remove listing” and you're off the map. Or do nothing: every listing expires after the time you choose, from a week to three months. A few days before, we email you a one-tap link to keep it up or remove it, with no sign-in. Arborists can also flag a site as full.

Only people signed in to Chiprun. Everyone else sees your town and a pin rounded to about a kilometre.

Fresh chipped branches and leaves from tree work, usually mixed broadleaf species. You can also choose to take logs.

As a mulch on top of the soil it suppresses weeds and holds moisture, and it's ideal for paths and chicken runs. Avoid digging fresh chip into beds, where it can lock up nitrogen while it breaks down.

Woodchip from tree work is usually classed as waste. Spreading it on land may need a simple, free waste exemption from the Environment Agency, or NRW or SEPA outside England. Check what applies to you.
